The brief requirements were to design innovative housing units meeting the highest energy efficiency standards and also utilising specific the building materials produced locally based on nanotechnologies. To make the most of the site orientation, the building was placed on the north-south axis for maximum solar gains and minimum heat losses. The chosen building configuration also secures ample daylight and allows for sufficient natural ventilation to all apartments. The full-height glazed balconies acting as a buffer zone for the hot summers and cold winters. The building was configured in such a way that the height performance integrated solar panels on the roof could be faced directly to the south at the optimum angle to achieve higher PVP efficiency. The majority of the specified building materials, such as the structural concrete, insulation panels, external and internal lighting fixtures, and integrated roof solar panels either were entirely or partially produced in Russia using nanotechnologies. Along with the smart technologies, also the "passive house principles" were successfully implemented. The building design was aimed to receive a BREEAM Excellent.
